Art Habit Updates

We’ve been busy in 2025! Here are some of the things we’ve been up to:

Nikki

I had a solo show that ran from June to July at Second Street Gallery. I have images of it on my website, so please check them out.

Besides that, I’ve had work in some group shows (including one up now at PVCC, and a Works on Paper event at Foyer).

I am also working towards my 2026 solo show at Foyer Gallery.

You can read more about what I’ve been up to here.

I’ve been having a bit of a sad-sack December, as I contracted pneumonia in November and the road to full recovery has been a longer slog than I would like (cue my Long December playlist HERE for the full, slightly depressive vibe). But with the current health debacle aside (and hopefully mostly in the rearview), I have had an exciting and productive 2025. In March, I exhibited new work in Squadrivium, a four-person exhibition (with Rachel Klinghoffer, Allison Reimus and Kate Sable) at Heaven Gallery in Chicago, IL. In May, I took a second group of college students to Berlin for The Art and History of Berlin, a short-term study abroad course. In June/July, I had work exhibited in 22 Candles at Ada Gallery in Richmond, VA. In July, my husband, Brian Barr, and I launched Take the Mantel, an intimate curatorial project and online platform for art and ideas.

I had two solo shows open this fall. Beach Vibes Only ran from August 18-September 25 at The College of the Abermarle’s Professional Arts Gallery in Manteo, NC. My second solo, Cut It Loose, opened at Ada Gallery on November 7. I’m excited to share that Cut It Loose has been extended through the end of the month, so if you find yourself in Richmond this long December, it would mean a ton to me if you’d stop by the gallery and have a look. If not, I've been updating my website regularly with images of new work (more also on Instagram!). Wishing everyone the best in the new year!

Things have been delightfully busy for the past 18 months. In 2024, I completed an installation called Pool (above), which has been exhibited in various forms three times: a solo exhibition at VisArts in Rockville, MD, at Goodwin House in Alexandria, VA (alongside a beautiful poem by my longtime friend, poet Saleem Hue Penny), and currently as part of the Faculty Exhibition at Montgomery College, TPSS Campus (up through January!). You can see more images of the installation, including a video walkthrough, on my website.

Last Spring I partnered with Hamiltonian Artists to lead a Professional Development workshop on Advancing your Career in Arts Education (you can catch the recording here).

I’m currently preparing a new body of work for a three person exhibition at the Betty Mae Kramer Gallery in March, 2026. You can see a sneak peek of that work on my instagram.
